This contact must be done in writing and must take place as soon as possible, but no later than 30 days after the end of the course in which the concern originated. The student may seek the support of their academic advisor, or another faculty member, in preparing this written communication.<\/li>\n<li>If the matter is not resolved, the student should arrange a meeting with the instructor to review the grade within 10 College business days of the written communication. If an agreement is reached, the matter is settled. A copy of this communication must be provided to the instructor by the chair or program director. The department chair or program director will schedule a meeting with the student, chair\/program director, and instructor. If an agreement is reached at this level, the problem is resolved, and no further action needs to be taken. If no agreement is reached, the student may elect to proceed to an appeal. The APAS will, within 10 College business days of receiving the written request, convene an Appeals Board that will serve for the term of the appeal in question. The board will be made up of two faculty members and one member of the student body. The APAS will serve as chair of the Appeals Board and as a non-voting member, and is responsible for documenting the events of the hearing and appointing the two faculty members. The student will be selected by the Associate Dean of Student Affairs. The student and instructor involved in the appeal must be present during the entire hearing, excluding deliberations. Each may be assisted during the hearing by an advisor from among current students, faculty, administration, or staff. This individual serves in an advisory capacity only. They may not actively participate in the hearing.<\/li>\n<li>The Appeals Board shall have three College business days from the time it is convened to decide. The student and faculty member are to be notified in writing of the board\u2019s decision. After the dissolution of the board, a repository of grievance records will be kept in the Registrar\u2019s Office.<\/p>\n\n                    <\/div>\n                <\/div>\n            <\/div>\n            <\/div>\n\n    <\/section>\n\n\n<section\n    class=\"body body--white \"\n    >\n    <div class=\"body__container\">\n                    <div class=\"body__heading\">Grievances Filed by Students Against Faculty Members Concerning Other Matters<\/div>\n                <div class=\"body__content\">\n            <p><span style=\"font-family: var(--font-raleway);font-size: 1.125rem;letter-spacing: 0.00625em\">A student may file a grievance against a faculty member unrelated to grades or Title IX violations. Such grievances typically address violations of the College\u2019s, department\u2019s, or program\u2019s standards regarding professional conduct, safety, and fairness. This may be done in person or in writing and must take place as soon as possible. If the reported concern originated in a course, this step must be initiated no later than 30 days after the end of the course. The student may seek the support of their academic advisor, or another faculty member, in any communication with the faculty member, and either the faculty member or the student may request that a mutually agreed-on third party be present at any meeting. If an agreement is reached, the matter is resolved. A copy of this communication must be provided to the faculty member by the chair or program director. A meeting will then be held with the student, chair\/program director, and faculty member. If the grievance is directed against the chair or program director, that chair\/program director must select another faculty member who will receive a copy of the communication and be present at the meeting. If an agreement is reached at this level, the problem is resolved, and no further action needs to be taken. After the dissolution of the board, a repository of grievance records will be kept in the Registrar\u2019s Office for five years following a student\u2019s last date of attendance at the College.<\/p>\n\n                    <\/div>\n                <\/div>\n            <\/div>\n            <\/div>\n\n    <\/section>\n\n\n<section\n    class=\"body body--white \"\n    >\n    <div class=\"body__container\">\n                <div class=\"body__content\">\n            <hr \/>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>If a resolution cannot be reached after the College\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"\/offices\/accessibility-resources\/students\/accessibility-grievance-procedures\/\">Accessibility Grievance Procedures<\/a>\u00a0or\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.lvc.edu\/about\/reporting-issues-grievances\/\">Reporting Issues &amp; Grievances<\/a>\u00a0are completed:<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Students residing in Pennsylvania: In the unlikely event that an issue cannot be resolved through the institutional complaint process, students who reside in Pennsylvania should contact the Pennsylvania Department of Education and follow its\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nc-sara.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/Pennsylvania-SARA-Student-Complaints-Process.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Pennsylvania SARA Student Complaint Process<\/a>. The process aligns with the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pa.gov\/agencies\/education\/programs-and-services\/instruction\/postsecondary-and-adult-education\/state-authority-of-distance-education\/state-authorization-reciprocity-agreement-sara.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">State Authorization Reciprocity Agreement<\/a>\u00a0(SARA). The Pennsylvania Department of Education is the agency responsible for oversight in resolving complaints.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cStudents residing outside Pennsylvania: SARA consumer protection provisions require the institution\u2019s home state, through its\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nc-sara.org\/sara-student-complaints-process-information-state\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">SARA State Portal Entry<\/a>, to investigate and resolve allegations of dishonest or fraudulent activity by the state\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nc-sara.org\/state-portal-entity-contacts\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">SARA-participating institutions<\/a>, including provision of false or misleading information.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThe student should begin the complaint process with the institution and if resolution is not found, the student would contact the institutions\u2019 home state SARA Portal Entity [links above].
